NEW LIGHT
DEVELOPMENT

NLTP believes that supporting new plays in development is essential to sustaining a vibrant, responsive, and relevant theater ecosystem. This year, we are investing in the writing of two of our playwrights, in an effort to support their ideas as they reshape and deepen their writing in real time with the input of our Collective.

NLTP believes that new plays thrive when they are nurtured, with attention to both craft and perspective, and that this investment ultimately leads to more impactful and enduring work for not only the artists but also our audiences.

On a full moon summer night, three longtime friends in their late thirties unexpectedly find themselves together for an impromptu girls’ weekend in upstate New York. Evie, a therapist on the verge of co-owning a Brooklyn brownstone with her outspoken, childfree-by-choice bestie Justine, is secretly six weeks pregnant. When their glamorous, TikTok famous Momfluencer friend Dee arrives unannounced, nostalgia turns combustible as deep-seated resentments rise to the surface and ignite a fierce debate about motherhood, autonomy, and chosen family. Hey Mamas is a funny and emotionally charged exploration of what women risk and reclaim when they choose to become mothers…or choose not to.

After a racial feud between rival churches ends in an unspeakable sin and max exodus, seven churchgoers threaten to shake the pillars of the last church standing, as they confront their relationships to the Body of Christ.

* Both plays received development assistance from the SPACE LAB program at 59E59 Theaters, April 5-10, 2026.
