Playwright

Andrew (he/they) is a Queer Colombian-American playwright and screenwriter. His plays have been developed with Rising Circle Theatre Collective, INTAR, Amios, the Austin Latino New Play Festival, The Amoralists Theatre Company, Pork Filled Productions (Seattle), Out Front Productions (Atlanta). He was a member of INKtank Lab for Playwrights of Color (2017) , 2017 Fornés Playwriting Workshop (Chicago). He is winner of the 2018 Chesley/Bumbalo Grant for writers of Gay and Lesbian Theatre and New Light Theatre Project’s New Light New Voices Award (2019). He is a company member of Unit 52 at INTAR, a Dramatist Guild Foundation Fellow (19-20) and a MacDowell Fellow (Winter 2020). Visiting Playwright in Residence at Skidmore College (21-22). Plays include: That Rhythm in the Blood, The Lonely (A Fictionally Non-Accurate Historical Kiki), and El Mito or The Myth of my Pain. Currently in Development; a multi media comedy inspired by mixed martial arts, healing, and research into Queer religion and spirituality, Maracuyá.

Originally from Houston, TX, Jesse (he/him) spent several years as a freelance theater director based in New York City before joining the faculty of Texas Tech University. He works primarily on new and contemporary plays. Some favorite projects include Say You Heard My Echo with spoken word artist Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai (HERE Arts Center); The Betrothed by Dipika Guha and Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom by Jennifer Haley (Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, Cape Cod, MA); The Netflix Plays (Ars Nova); The Tens (Actors Theatre of Louisville); Zen Ties by Y York, based on the children's book by Jon J. Muth (The Rose Theatre, Omaha, NE); and How I Learned To Drive by Paula Vogel (FSU/Asolo Conservatory, Sarasota, FL). He has developed new work at the Lark Play Development Center; the New York International Fringe Festival; The Kitchen Theatre Co. (Ithaca, NY); and the Yale Cabaret.  He was the Artistic Director of the 2010 Yale Summer Cabaret and served as the Staff Repertory Director of The Acting Company. He is an alumnus of the Cherry Lane Mentor Project, where he conceived and directed a four-person adaptation of King Lear; the Drama League’s Directors Project; the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab; and the Civilians R&D Group. Jesse received his MFA in directing from the Yale School of Drama. He is thrilled to be working with Sarah Norris and New Light Theater Project.

Juan (he/him) graduated with a BFA from Rutgers University. In theater, he has played roles ranging from King Henry V to Rafael Nadal, and has been involved in various world premiere plays in New York City. In 2020 he starred in the short film Shadows which premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival and can currently be streamed on HBO. He has also co-starred in Blue Bloods and The Good Wife. Born in Miami and raised in New York City he is of Cuban and Spanish descent and enjoys pastelitos and cafecito more than he should. He is thrilled to be doing another world premiere in NYC.

Ashton (they/he) is an actor, performance artist, activist and emerging producer based in New York. Ashton’s artistic goal is to instill joy into the world by embracing the realities of the present. Acting credits include The Inheritance on Broadway (’21 Tony Award Winner Best Play), Taylor Mac’s 24-Decade History of Popular Music (Edward Kennedy Prize for Drama) and has been seen Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop, The Public Theatre, St. Anne’s Warehouse and more. Recently, Ashton has collaborated with various artists and been featured in select works at museums and galleries around the world such as The Guggenheim , Art Institute Chicago, Swiss Institute, New Museum, CND(Paris), Lehmann Maupin and Pace Gallery. Additionally, Ashton has also danced for artists such as Marc Jacobs FW 2020, A$AP Rocky and Rihanna. Jenna (she/her) is proud to be working with New Light Theater Project’s production of I Wanna F*ck Like Romeo and Juliet. Jenna is a recent graduate from Queen Margaret University, where she received her master’s degree in Arts, Festival and Cultural Management. She also has received her Bachelor’s in Theatre studies specializing in Stage Management and Technical Design.

Her other theatre credits include: Gundog (Silencio), StoopKids LIVE! (Summer Theatre of New Canaan), Pippin (Summer Theatre of New Canaan), Treasure Island (Summer Theatre of New Canaan), Sondheim on Stage (Summer Theatre of New Canaan).

Antonio (he/him) was assistant costume designer for the Broadway productions of Funny Girl, Hamilton, and Almost Famous, for the national tour of The Play that Goes Wrong (Chicago), and for numerous productions at Papermill Playhouse including The Honeymooners. He also designed costumes for Masquerade: The Musical of Andrew Lloyd Webber and The Bodyguard at White Plains Performing Arts Center. National tours: R.E.S.P.E.C.T- TOUR, Dirty Dancing In Concert, and The British Invasion Live on Tour.

Intimacy & Fight Director

Denise (she/her) is happy to be working with director Jesse Jou again, having previously worked with him on Bruise&Thorn for the Pipeline Theatre Company. Denise has worked as an actor, a teacher, a director, a fight choreographer and an intimacy director all over the country. During the height of the pandemic she expanded into teaching acting and stage combat online and acting in online productions such as The Witlings and the award winning A Vampire’s Kiss in the Plague of 1666 with First Flight Theatre Company. She teaches in the Theatre Department at City College of New York. She comes from a theatre family and is so glad to be back in theaters again. She has appeared in regional theatres in such shows as The Play’s the Thing, Defying Gravity, Romeo and Juliet, Henry V, King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth and has done the fight choreography for such shows as Ruined, Lear, Dorothy’s Coming Out Party, I Hate Hamlet, and Macbeth. She wishes to thank her mother, Merlyn, for all her love and support, her Sisters, Michelle and Adrienne for all their support and inspiration and to remember her father, Hugh, for his loving heart and generous soul.
